LET’S HEAR YOUR STORY

Being a diehard sports enthusiast at this time of year is not always easy. Life as we know it basically comes down to choosing between our day-to-day responsibilities like work, family, our homes, but the temptation to set everything aside to watch The Game as every day there is A game on TV. The Game as it’s referred to in my house can come at us in many different forms, on many different fields and stadiums, at many different times of the day and night. We may be watching games on the west coast or the east coast or somewhere in between. The games we watch could be in Europe, Africa or in some specific cases like mine. Australia. It can be difficult to make time to watch The Game. Do I work or watch The Game? Mow the lawn or watch The Game? Take the kids to the beach or watch The Game. Do I get a good night’s sleep or stay up late or get up early to watch The Game? We all have or own ways of dealing with it I suppose. In the end the important thing is to remember that it’s just A Game. Win or loose, the sun will come up (or set) right on time as usual. Your job and your boss will still be there tomorrow, the lawn will still need to be taken care of, you’ll still need to get at least 8 hours of sleep to be rested (yeah, right) so let’s try not to take The Game too seriously. It’s just a game and in the long run it always seems to win. Unless of course it’s football, because football comes first before anything, Football is special. Football is sacred. Football is, well, football. For many of us football is both therapy and an escape. Two or three hours with your favorite team, an afternoon or an evening of pre game, post game and every play and touchdown in between. Football is not just A Game, it’s THE Game. If you’ve been lucky enough to sneak up early on a Sunday morning you might have been able to catch a rare early morning game in London or Frankfurt. There’s not alot going on during a Sunday morning unless your a church goer, why not football? Perfect! Yes, The Yankees have won a couple dozen World Championships and saved Europe twice but now they want American Football too. Go figure. The game of the week this time around was The Dolphins vs. The Chiefs in Germany, an early Sunday morning game. Both teams came into the game 5-2 with high expectations and mid season hopes to continue winning but in the end the Chiefs prevailed 21-14. For me it was surprising and disappointing, especially seeing the Dolphins go scoreless in the entire first half. The Dolphins are a great team but they need to play better against the more talented teams. You’re not going to make The Superbowl by beating the Jets and The Broncos. My bottom line on this year’s Dolphins effort is that if Miami doesn’t make it deep into the playoffs I may have to seek therapy. Yes, it’s that serious. If you made it into the afternoon hours watching more football you got to see The Dallas Cowboys fold 28-23 in another major matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. I’ve never been a big believer in The Eagles, I’m even less of a believer in The Cowboys who seem to never win the big ones. Dak Prescott might actually be on thin ice in Dallas as the next crop of Quarterbacks coming out of college is going to be extremely talented. We may be seeing the beginning of the end for Dak.I’m not sure what to say about The Buffalo Bills. Every week they play the part of the favorite then end up getting beat. This week they fell victim to a surging Cincinnati Bengals team that has found new life with a once again healthy Joe Burrow. It may be time to admit that although Buffalo certainly has the talented roster to take them thru to the playoffs they lack the fortitude to go the distance. Time will tell on this team, but right now I see the Bills moving backwards, not forwards. With the season streaking past the halfway mark the team to beat seems to once again be The Philadelphia Eagles. They’re firing on all cylinders at this point and if Jalen Hurts stays healthy there’s little doubt they could go the distance. There is that lingering doubt of injury however as several Quarterbacks this past week have had their season ended prematurely with Curt Cousins and Daniel Jones both falling to the dreaded ACL tear. Considering there’s some three more months of games to play I fear injuries will become more common. I hope I’m wrong. In the end I have to admit I haven’t made up my mind on wether or not I like NFL games being played in Europe. I know it’s about the bottom line, money, and tapping into a European market can and probably will be a gold mine for the league but with games projected to be played in Spain and France next year I’m wondering if it’s gone overboard. What’s next I wonder, a middle of the night match up from Saudi Arabia?Don’t look now but the college basketball season has begun. With about 6 months to go till we all start filling out our Final Four brackets I’m not going to say a lot other then remind everyone that UConn is predicted to repeat. Of course Purdue, Duke, Michigan and about 60 other division 1 teams might have something to say about this but with the core of The Huskies starters returning I’m thinking it will be a dominating season. Last year everyone in South Florida went bonkers when both Florida Atlantic University and The University of Miami made it to the Final Four and in the process ruined everyone’s bracket (mine included). Let’s hope this year will be just as exciting although I’d appreciate a longer lasting run in my tournament picks!
