Let’s Toss the Salad and Get Ready to Eat, College Bowl Games Shaping Up…

It’s come to that time in the fall season where things are getting very, very serious in College Football. For about 145 teams in the Division 1 football family the season is coming to a disappointing close. For them there will be no bowl games, no trips to sunny South Florida or Southern California to celebrate a winning season and spend the week getting a sunburn on the beaches and chasing the girls. For the 20 or so remaining teams however, the struggle continues. A college football playoff series looms on the horizon followed by a show stopping championship game that rivals the Super Bowl in popularity. Well, maybe not the Super Bowl because let’s be honest, nothing compares to The Super Bowl, right?

The College Football Playoff Selection Committee has an easy job this year, so far at least. The four remaining undefeated teams are Ohio State, Michigan. Georgia and Florida State. Picking the top four teams to make the playoffs is a no brainer. However, predicting what will happen in the next several weeks is a bit more of a challenge. The only sure bet at this point is that there will be a team with at least one loss in the playoff series.

Michigan and Ohio State, both members of the Big Ten Conference, will play each other and that means that someone is gonna end up with a loss. It’s hard to predict if the other two teams, Georgia and Florida State, can win out but irregardless there’s still a lot of football left to play here folks so stay tuned. Don’t forget that Alabama, Oregon and The University of Washington are all waiting outside the door.

Many Americans are beginning to panic about what’s happening in the NFL this season. The world around us may be on fire and crumbling but the fact that some teams are tubing is leading to a full blown crisis’ situation in places like San Francisco, New York and Kansas City.

Three weeks ago, the 49ers were the second coming of sliced bread and were picked to not only win The Super Bowl by many but were a heavy favorite to take the place of Kansas City as the NFL darlings. Three straight losses to The Browns, The Vikings and The Bengals changed all that. The 59ers are now a huge ugly chest wound. San Francisco has more fans jumping the ship then rats on a one-way steamer to The South Pole. Brock Purdy, once heralded as a modern-day version of Tom Brady, has played his way back into virtual irrelevance. He’s completed more passes to opposing receivers then players on his own team or so it seems. It took more then a few years to destroy The Roman Empire, will San Francisco fall in just a few short weeks? Let’s all sit back and watch to see if it crumbles!!

Several teams of course are cruising right along. Jacksonville, Philadelphia, and of course Miami are all

Playing well and are adding to their win columns. The recent trades made by The Lions, the 49ers and Kansas City are bound to have an impact in the future weeks. I feel that at this point in the season a majority of the teams who are playing well and are above 500 in their records will start to make a push towards being a playoff contender. It’s a fact, however, that as the season rumbles on the number of injuries will rise. In short, nothing is decided and nothing at this point is predictable.

The World Series is in full swing as we speak. What looked to be possibly a good matchup between Arizona and Texas is turning into something that might end quickly. Texas holds a comfortable 3-1 in games and like many teams we’ve talked about in the past is playing lights out baseball. Of course, it’s not over yet, but by the time this article it might be as game five is set to begin Wednesday night. All in all it’s been and interesting season and if I’ve learned anything from baseball this year I’ve learned that money doesn’t give you a winning program. Just ask the Mets and The Dodgers!

As one season ends another one begins. The NBA is in full swing and games are being played almost nightly. It seems strange to think that we’ve got until maybe late May or June before the season ends. Of course, there are many people that are making predictions and I’m not going to be one of them but I’d like to just add that every year it seems no one pays attention to Miami until The Heat starts knocking off teams in the playoffs. Boston, Milwaukee and LA are all fearing Denver but who they should really be worried about is the team Jimmy Butler plays for!! Let’s hope they can continue to bring it home and as usual Play On!!!
