Money doesn’t make you normal or a good Quarterback either

I’ve always been a believer that everyone should be given 90 days to learn a new job. Given even a modest amount of intelligence bolstered with a heafty pay check 90 days is enough to learn just about anything especially with all the tools one has at his or her’s fingertips. The internet, Artificial Intelligence, social media and Utube all provide a ready made tutorial service available instantly, 24 hours a day, to anyone that needs it. I’ve also believed that the 90 day period should be broken down into a crawl-walk-run scenario. Crawl to learn the job, walk to to practice the job, then finally run at it when you know it and get it done. You’d think it would be pretty simple right? Well, not so fast my friend, because The NFL apparently has other plans.

It’s week number 5 in The NFL and there are many teams that have still not learned to run. Carolina is now the sole winless team in the league and conversely has the number 1 pick from last year starting at quarterback. Go figure. San Francisco is arguably the best team in the league and undefeated and had a quarterback that was the LAST player picked  in the draft. Go figure again! I don’t know who to believe anymore. We’re roughly one third into the season and the teams that we thought would be great are basically terrible and the teams we thought would be terrible are holding their own.

Let’s begin a discussion on the present state of The NFL so far this season with the NFC. I’ll save the AFC and the best for last.

I think that a lot of people are beginning to realize that The Dallas Cowboys are not an elite team. Dak Prescott (Game Check $100,000) is not going to lead them to The Super Bowl so we’re going to have to forgo seeing Jerry Jones and the rest of the self entitled elites sitting in a plush luxury box drinking high dollar sparkling water while his team gets it’s ass kicked. Bummer. The recent Sunday night dismantling(42-10) of the Cowboys by San Francisco Wonder Boy Brock Purdy( Game Check $41,500) and the 49ers showed us all that the team from Texas with a star on its helmet is no longer America’s team. Needless to say that the game on Sunday night was a disappointment, it was a typical Dallas bust. The 49ers are rolling. If they stay healthy I don’t see anyone beating them any time some. They’re undefeated and have won 13 straight regular season games.

Not a lot of people are talking about The Philadelphia Eagles even though they are sitting at 5-0. One half of last years Super Bowl are fielding basically the same strong, fast roster and winning with regularity but are doing it quietly it seems. Walk softly and carry a big stick, I would say. With only The Giants (pathetic), Dallas (semi pathetic) and Washington (quasi pathetic) to deal with in their division the Eagles seem to have things well in hand. We’ll have to wait and see how they and Jalen Hurts(game check $59,411) fare against the rest of the NFC. Detroit (4-1) and Tampa Bay (3-1) both lead their Divisions but have played inconsistently. With San Francisco and Philadelphia winning with familiar dominance it will likely come down to who can outlast the other in the long run. Stay tuned.

Over in The AFC things are much more interesting and intriguing. After a little more than a month of play no one is really standing out as a clear leader of the pack. They are however racking up some frequent flyer miles, traveling to and fro to England like modern day Jet-Setters.

Just over a week or so ago The Buffalo Bills were the toast of the town. They could do no wrong. The were the conqueroring heros. The Bills Mafia was literally foaming at the mouth. They had man handled the Miami Dolphins with Josh Allen(Game Check $100,000) and the Bills offense putting on a clinic in Orchard Park. Along comes a trip to London, England and The Jacksonville Jaguars led by Trevor Lawrence and they’re in the doghouse again getting saddled with a 25-20 loss. I’m not sure what’s going on with the Bills. A very visible side line meltdown of Stephan Diggs, the second or third in a year and obviously directed at Josh Allen, tells me there more salt in the sauce then there needs to be. Something is not right in Buffalo. It may end up being a long season for the Mafia after all. As for Jacksonville, they are my pre season pick to win it all this year so more power them.

Miami it seems may be finally heading in the right direction. With a healthy Tua Tagovailoa(Game Check $63,125) and a scary reciever core lead by Tyreek Hill The Miami Dolphins field one of the strongest deep threat offenses in recent memory. Their main issue is consistency on both sides of the ball. Putting it all together for a full four quarters has eluded them so far and with the heart of a tuff schedule coming up it seems that October and November will be make or break time for Miami. Let’s hope it’s the latter.

Everyone seems to think that Kansas City is the best team in the league. Led by super star quarterback Patrick Mahomes(Game Check $77,900) they seem to be on a decent roll at 4-1 but are somewhat less then dominating. Come on people, they barely beat the New York Jets! They’re beatable in many ways. Tight end Travis Kelce’s front page love life with Mega Star Taylor Swift may be the top story for them this year. Repeating a Super Bowl win is no easy task so we’ll have to see if the love story with the Chiefs continues. I’m not buying it.

Speaking of buying, if you haven’t noticed I’ve included several side comments on how much money some of these quarterbacks are making per game. This is of course their 2023 base salary devised by the number of games in the season. Based on that, some of these guys are a bit overpaid I’d say but not to worry. Next year the meat of the contracts kick in for Josh Allen and Dak Prescott respectively. Allen’s game check will jump to 1.7 million while The Cowboys quarterback will be taking home a healthy 1.2 million per game. Brock Purdy will of course still be making a measly $41,000. And my boss says that I’m over paid!! Play on I say!!
