Nicknamed “The Factory,” Rynearson Stadium has been the home of the Eastern Michigan Eagles since 1969. The stadium was built and constructed in time for the 1969 football season. On September 27, 1969 the Eagles made their debut at the stadium against Akron. It was named after Elton Rynearson who coached 26 season at Eastern Michigan.

Upon its opening, the stadium had roughly 15,500 seats and was built at a cost of $1.4 million. Five years after its opening the seating capacity was increased to 22,227 and lighting was added for night games. latest improvements and expansions came in the 1990s. Before the 1991 season, a type of Astroturf known as StadiaTurf was installed at Rynearson Stadium, but was later replaced with Fieldturf in 2005. The following year, the seating capacity was increased to its current capacity of 30,200 with the addition of seats on the east side. A new scoreboard and the pressbox was expanded during this time. Beginning in 2014 the stadium will be known for its gray colored Fieldturf as the university installed the turf before the season.
