Yankees free agency and trade buzz: Jameson Taillon reportedly in contact with Mets

The Yankees may have competition if they want to re-sign Jameson Taillon. The Mets have been in contact with Taillon, according to a report by Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Taillon, 31, is an unrestricted free agent after spending the 2022 season with the Yankees on a one-year contract for $5.8 million. The Yankees acquired Taillon on Jan. 24, 2021, in a five-player trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Taillon went 22-11 with a 4.08 ERA in 61 regular-season starts from 2021-22, striking out 291 and walking 76 over 321.2 IP. "I haven't thought about it a ton, but I definitely know I love playing here," Taillon said after the Yankees' four-game sweep against the Houston Astros in the ALCS last month. "They took a chance on me coming back from rehabbing elbow surgery. To get to come here -- I never experienced the playoffs, never experienced a winning environment and culture. I feel like I didn't take a day for granted showing up (and) putting the pinstripes on. I loved my time here. I would definitely love to come back."
