Week 12: Dallas Cowboys Prime Time

Every year right about this time people seem to get into heated discussions over trying to decide who will get the Hiesman Trophy and who will win the college football championship. This year an extra twist has been added to the scenerio. People are now speculating (and taking bets) on whether or not Dione Saunders will jump from The University of Colorado to The Dallas Cowboys providing a speculative but possible scenario where by his quarterback son goes along with him. It makes for a good story especially with main stream sports media but I’m not convinced yet that it’s gonna happen. I don’t think Jerry Jones wants anything to do with that Prime-Time drama and the probable media circus that it would bring. To be honest I don’t see quarterback openings in Dallas happening anytime soon so I’m gonna put this story on the back burner for now. With a couple more weeks of great football left in the college ranks we’ve got more important things to concentrate on and that’s the playing of the actual games themselves.

To be honest I don’t think anyone really knows what’s going to happen in the college football playoffs and that includes the selection committee. I think that everyone can agree that The University of Oregon Ducks, the only one of two undefeated power 5 conference teams is a number one seed and gets a first round bye, from there however it gets murky. Rounding out the first round byes are Miami, Texas and…..wait for it…….Boise State? That’s right folks, after it’s all said and done there exists a slight chance that Boise State could walk away with the National Title. It’s almost like the College Football gods are toying with our sanity. With Tennessee dropping out of contention after last week’s loss to Georgia that leaves Notre Dame, Georgia, Penn State, Indiana, Ohio State, BYU, Alabama and Mississippi as the remaining eight teams. It’s an interesting bunch to say the least. With Indiana playing Ohio State and Ol Miss facing a huge rivalry game vs. Florida this weekend anything is still possible in the playoff picture so stay tuned, it’s gonna get crazy.

Even though the season is not yet begun to end I’d like a moment to apologize to all the Dione/Colorado fans and players out there. I was wrong. I predicted at the beginning of the season that Colorado wouldn’t win five games this year and considering they are now sitting at 7-2 with a chance to not only win the conference title but are an outside shot to go to the college football playoffs. I need to wipe a lot of egg off my face!! The Colorado Buffaloes going to the playoffs could be the best college sports story in ten years. At the very least Dione should win Coach of The Year like many are predicting. I’ll let the Heisman race play out a bit more but a playoff game in Boulder I think would be literally off the charts as far as attendance and viewership is concerned. Hopefully it won’t be snowing but you know it’s gonna be cold!!

All in all it’s  been a great year in college football. I have to admit there have been upsets that I find hard to fathom. Of course in some instances I can say that the more things change, the more they stay the same. Alabama will always be Alabama with or without Nick Saban. Notre Dame will always be one of my favorites regardless of wether they win or lose and of course the one game I mark on my calendar, Army vs. Navy, will be a barn burner this year as for a brief moment in time both were ranked in the top 25! This year’s Army/Navy game will be must watch television for sure!

There’s still some great football yet to come folks so fear not. Apart from Army vs Navy we have Florida vs Florida State, Alabama vs Auburn, Mississippi vs Mississippi State and a host of other late season rivalry games where I smell at least two maybe three upsets in the works. It’s not over yet and nothing is written in stone but it’s shaping up to be as exciting and confusing and frustrating as college football always is, and it’s not even December yet!

As for my weekly picks let’s just say that mountain side condo in Lake Tahoe might have to wait another year or at least until after Match Madness. If anything it’s been fun so far and I’m still paying my bills so no one is gonna starve following my predictions but hey, it’s a game right? It’s supposed to be fun! Play on I Say!!
