LET’S HEAR YOUR STORY
There’s comes at time in a college football program’s life when a team must come to terms with their own mortality. Of course, the result of the season is not a life or death situation in any sense of the word but when its over, it’s over. Now before hundreds of fans out there start jumping off tall buildings and filing their wills with the town clerk let me just say that there is life after football, I think. The sun will come up tomorrow and world will turn again as it has for millions of years. How we all deal with that sunrise or face that turning globe of life is up to all of us to individually, unless of course we’re a fan for Alabama, Ol Miss, Texan A&M or Colorado. For fans of these teams I would suggest an account on Legal Zoom for your will and the closest 8 story parking garage on campus for the jump. May your pain pass quickly.
Normally, in normal times, I would sound the deathnel for The University of Alabama after loosing again last weekend and scoring a whopping 3 points. Has that ever even happened before? For me the real kicker is that in spite all that The College Playoff Comittee STILL had them in the twelve team mix. Go figure. With that being said the top four teams in the playoffs remain unchanged. Miami, Texas, Oregon and Boise State all have first round byes as before. The rest of the pack remains fluid as several teams move in and out of the picture. Ol Miss, Clemson and Colorado all suffered huge upsets last weekend and may or may not be out of the picture. Penn State, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Indiana are all still in the picture along with Tennessee and SMU back in the mix after big wins against ranked opponents. It’s an ever changing picture for the college football playoffs and with rivalry weekend this weekend coming up I would look for a few changes in the future before everything is written in stone. Of course even after this weekend there’s still conference championships to consider. Confused? Absolutely!! Stay tuned folks it’s gonna get crazy.
Even though we still have a couple of weeks to go there seems to be controversy in the selections for the finalists of The Heisman Trophy and yes Dione Saunders and The Colorado Buffaloes are right in the middle of it all. Frankly I’m
not shocked a bit. The hype for Colorado standout Travis Hunter, who plays both offense and defense, is on afterburners. After a humiliating loss last week to an unranked Kansas team in which Hunter was burned several times it’s gonna be a hard sell handing the trophy to a player based on the number of snaps he plays that in reality doesn’t mean squat. Conversely, the second player being considered, running back Ashton Jeanty at Boise State, has consistently ran over defenses since game one of the season and has been a huge contributor to getting his team placed in the top tier for the football playoffs. My vote goes to Jeanty for sure. Additionally, I think the continued flashing of the Heisman pose by Hunter during the football game (I think I’ve seen it three times at least) is pretty classless and immature. In retrospect I might just jump right off the Colorado bandwagon. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me right?
I’ll be the first to admit it hasn’t been a stellar year for my game picks this season. After registering a dismal 0-3 last weekend I had to take a day and ponder my strategy for the remaining weeks of the season. It’s not over yet. I still feel that redemption is possible with a higher level of concentration and a big dose of luck. Will there be huge upsets in the coming days? My answer is yes! Will it effect the playoffs? My answer is absolutely! Unlike the NFL where wins and loses seemed to be pre ordained, sort off, the College game continues to confound and confuse. With that in mind I’ve decided to put the pedal down and get more aggressive in more college games. Look for the usual podcast of my picks this weekend, if you dare, and have no worries! The world will turn!!
