Spring Training Has Started That means it's that time in the sport world

It’s that time of year again. The grey zone. I call it the sports dull drums. It’s that time of year when we football fans are hanging in a kind of limbo between the regular season and the promise of the draft and all the next season has to offer. There might be no games taking place but people are still talking about football, the draft, the schedules next year. Basically, we’re hoping and thinking and wishing for next season to be better or be the best. If you’re a college fan you’re thinking FBS playoffs. If it’s NFL you follow, you’re thinking Super Bowl. If you’re into both like I am you’re just hoping the Dolphins and The Hurricanes can pull out a winning season and make it to the playoffs. Ah well, there’s always hope right? Go figure.

In between it all we get to enjoy other sporting traditions and there are so many!  The NCAA Tournament, The Masters, The Kentucky Derby and a host of other events. Yes, there’s baseball. Yes, there’s NBA basketball and yes, they’re all exciting. Of course they all draw huge crowds and a lot of national and international attention but let’s get real, there’s nothing quite like football right?

We’re just a couple weeks away from March Madness, The NCAA Tournament and a picture is finally beginning to form in my mind as to how it will all play out. I suppose you could say that the clouds are beginning to part. I can’t speak for all 64 teams (or is it 68 now?) but I can definitely point towards a few standouts and a couple of dark horses that should be there at end.

First up I like Auburn but then again so does the rest of America. The Tigers have held the top spot for most of the year and have been chewing up opponents with familiar regularity. That being said, there’s really no one I don’t like in the SEC.  It’s a tough

conference this year and at one time every school in in it was eligible to make it into the tournament. Thats no insignificant stat but of course it was fleeting as it only lasted about a week. The SEC like most conferences has its ups and downs and upsets but, in the end, I like at least one school from the Southern Powerhouse making it into the final four. The question is, who will be?

Another conference to take seriously is The ACC. There’s of course Duke and North Carolina but a host of others schools are playing well and improving as the season moves along. Clemson, NC State and Miami will in all

Likelihood makes it into the tournament however the depth of their run is anyone’s guess.

In between and in spite of all of this we have quite ways to go before football. What we do however have is the NFL draft coming soon and that fact keeps us interested regardless.

This spring the NFL draft comes in April I believe and there’s a ton of talent, or at least in college they seemed talented. The NFL is of course a different story. This year’s Heisman Trophy winner, Travis Hunter from The University of Deone Saunders, is projected to go high as is his quarterback, another Saunders product. Frankly I’m not convinced that either of these will do well in the NFL but then I was wrong about them doing well in Colorado as well. I’m gonna take a wait and see attitude on these two.

With the NFL going on this week there’s bound be issues with sprint speed, hand size, vertical jump (and maybe rock climbing?) I’m really not sure why the NFL combine is important other than more viewer dollars but it is what is. I’ll catch it once in a while to see how some of the big stars are doing and keep my head in the game!

Until draft night it will be golf, horse racing and The NCAA tournament for me. Make sure and fill out your brackets and look for more info from me, your college connection, on sportsbookstuff.com Play on I say!!
