There’s a reason many around the game offered nothing but praise of the Rangers’ selection of talented young winger Gabe Perreault with the 23rd overall pick in the NHL Draft two years ago.

Perreault has all the makings of a future star on Broadway and he put his game-changing abilities on full display during his stellar freshman campaign at Boston College.

The youngster was part of one of the top lines in the country and he recorded 19 goals and 41 assists while helping lead the Eagles to a National Championship appearance.

“It was a big year for myself and the team,” Perreault said at Rangers development camp. “It was a fun year overall, obviously we had a good season as a team and also myself. I thought I improved and got bigger, so it was really good overall.”

And it’s not just his own assessment that was positive, as the organization also seems to like what they saw from their quickly rising young prospect during his first 36 games at the collegiate level.

“He had a heck of a season,” Rangers director of player development Jed Ortmyer said. “I got to see him a lot, he was impressive and fun to watch, so he’s definitely a player that we are excited about.”

Perreault also shined as a member of Team USA during the World Junior Championships, recording three goals and seven assists while skating alongside his Boston College linemates for all seven games.

After such a strong showing on the bright stage and a monster freshman campaign, there have been many questions about when the 19-year-old will look to sign his pro deal with the Blueshirts to take his talents to the next level.

While the anticipation is growing, it looks like Rangers fans will have to wait just a bit longer, as Perreault revealed that he plans on returning to Boston College for his sophomore season and then he’ll evaluate things from there.

“I’m just focused on having another big year at school,” he said. “So I’ll just try to focus there, have a good season and hopefully win a national championship. And then when the time comes I’ll discuss with my family, agent, and the Rangers and I’ll make a decision from there.”
