Mets Minor League Roundup: Ronny Mauricio red hot with Syracuse, Blade Tidwell dominates in Brooklyn

Here's the latest on some of the Mets' top prospects...

SS/2B/OF Ronny Mauricio, Triple-A Syracuse

With trades being made, likely opening a handful of roster spots in the next few days, Mauricio has been making an extremely strong case for a potential call up.

The 22-year-old was on fire this week, picking up three different walk-off hits. He's currently riding a six-game hitting streak and has reached base in eight of his last nine games.

Mauricio was on base twice Friday night with a hit and his 24th walk of the season. He also made a pair of nice plays in left field, including throwing a runner out at the plate. He's been putting his talents on full display both offensively and defensively.

Through 84 games of his Triple-A campaign, Mauricio has 112 hits and 56 RBI. He's now slashing .298/.349/.503 for an .852 OPS to go along with 16 homers, two triples, 25 doubles, and 16 stolen bases.

RHP Mike Vasil, Triple-A Syracuse

Vasil continued his rough transition to Triple-A his last time out.

The right-hander lasted just 4.2 innings but only allowed two runs on six hits while striking out four. He now owns a 6.59 ERA and 1.87 WHIP through seven starts with Syracuse since being promoted.

One of the biggest problems for Vasil of late has been the free passes. After walking eight in 51.0 innings for Binghamton, the 23-year-old has already walked 16 in 27.1 innings at Syracuse.

He's now the Mets' No. 9 overall prospect in the system, according to MLB Pipeline, and is considered to be among their most major-league-ready pitching prospect.

C Kevin Parada, High-A Brooklyn

Parada was placed on the injured list down in Brooklyn due to a right ankle sprain.

The 21-year-old catcher was injured going first to third on a base hit in the bottom of the first during Thursday night’s game against the Blue Rocks. After an awkward slide he was replaced by a pinch runner, but was able to walk off the field under his own power.

Parada has been bumped up to the top prospect in the organization by some publications. After a bit of a slow start to the season he had been turning a corner of late.

Through 82 games, he’s posted 19 doubles, four triples, ten homers, 37 RBI, and a .797 OPS. He’s also caught would be base stealers at an 18 percent clip, throwing out 24 runners.

OF Alex Ramirez, High-A Brooklyn

Ramirez, now the Mets’ No. 4 prospect, had a solid week at the dish over six games. Following his 6-for-6 performance last week, he recorded a hit in six of the next seven games.

After struggling in June (.195 average in 24 games), the 20-year-old was able to turn things around in July. He put together a slash line of .279/.337/.349 with six doubles and 10 RBI over 21 games.

Ramirez has been finishing the month strong as he's currently riding a four-game hitting streak, including a three hit and three RBI performance on Tuesday night.

Overall, he has 21 extra-base hits with five homers, 16 doubles and 42 RBI. He's also produced a .245/.340/.341 slash line for a .680 OPS through 86 games with the Cyclones.

Ramirez has 16 steals to his name with 44 walks and 81 strikeouts.

RHP Blade Tidwell, High-A Brooklyn

Tidwell has quietly been one of the best pitchers in the organization this season.

In his most recent start, the right-hander allowed just two hits and three walks while striking out five over five shutout innings. He worked through some early trouble and was able to settle down nicely. Brooklyn went on to secure the 3-0 win over the Wilmington Blue Rocks, handing him his eighth victory of the season.

Tidwell now has a 3.09 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 112 strikeouts over 81.2 innings pitched in Brooklyn. This continues a stretch of some tremendous pitching for him.

The 22-year-old has recorded a 1.56 ERA and 85 strikeouts over his last 12 starts and he hasn’t allowed more than two runs in a game since May 10.

Tidwell, the fifth-ranked prospect in the Mets’ system according to MLB Pipeline, just continues getting better as the year goes on.

SS Jett Williams, Low-A St. Lucie

After a bit of a slow start to the season, Williams has been scorching hot of late for the St. Lucie Mets.

This month, the former first-round pick is hitting .280 with a stellar .460 on-base percentage, and a .975 OPS. He also has six doubles, three triples, a homer, seven RBI, and 12 stolen bases over that span.

Williams has six multi-hit games and he’s drawn a walk in 13 of the 20 games he’s appeared in this month. The only time he hasn’t reached base was an 0-for-5 performance with three strikeouts back on July 7.

He’s 18 for his last 18 on stolen base attempts dating back to June 2.

Williams leads the Florida State League with a .426 OBP and is fourth with 32 stolen bases. He has his OPS up to .832 to go along with 12 doubles, six triples, five homers, and 34 RBI. The 19-year-old has also shown tremendous plate discipline at a young age, drawing 68 walks.
