Ladies and Gentlemen, of Florida, place your sports bets! (Just don’t take Buffalo)

Don’t look now folks but for the first time in several years you can place a legal sports bet on line, as Florida joins some 25 other States to allow Sports Wagering via a phone app. I say, Hallelujah! In my opinion it’s been a long time coming. Most have asked why not sports as we’ve been able to bet the ponies, buy scratch off lotto tickets and smoke weed but the sports gods denied us the ability to put ten dollars on The Dolphins game. Go figure.

As of this weekend my picks took on a different type of interest. They had actual monetary consequences, which I find to be not only compelling but very exciting. I’m happy to say I finished the weekend a few dollars ahead. Let the games begin and let the best man be victorious!

There were many people this weekend who felt victorious and there were many fans who we’re feeling, well, somewhat less then victorious. As is usual this time of year there were upsets in the sporting world that were both unexpected and shocking and no they didn’t involve the Dallas Cowboys.

I’ll mention a few, after looking pretty pathetic and loosing every game in the month of October The San Francisco 49ers seem to have corrected their issues, whatever they were. A crushing defeat of The Jacksonville Jaguars 34-3 proved to me that they are back, at least until next weekend. Brock Purdy was back to his old self, easy hand offs and shovel passes for 5 or 6 yards a pop, slipping back comfortably into the role of a system quarterback. Over their last 4 games they are now 1-3 so we’ll have to wait and see. Don’t hold your breath waiting.

After all the talk about how much better the Ravens are playing and scoring with an offense designed around Lamar Jackson, Baltimore ran right out and registered a loss falling to The Cleveland Browns 33-31. You really can’t blame the loss on Lamar Jackson but for the 300 million he’s gonna get paid I’m expecting a bit more, but that’s just me. Blame it on the rain I suppose. We’re learning that money doesn’t make people super human. Just ask Joe Burrow’s Bengals after a loss to Houston and Daniel Jones who is out for the season with an ACL injury. Considering the Giants are 2-8 having a torn ACL may be the better option.

We’ve reached that point in the NFL season where people are discussing playoff positions and possibilities. As things stand right now at week number 11, the only team out there firing on all cylinders, consistently, is Philadelphia. All the other major contenders, Cincinnati, Miami, KC, Baltimore and San Francisco to name just a few are up and down week to week. Many are loosing games they should be winning and winning games they should be loosing. It’s a betting nightmare. Does any of it make any sense? Not really.

No team seems to have fallen from grace harder and quicker then The Buffalo Bills who just a few short weeks ago were regarded as the kings of the state of New York. After a very visible melt down on Monday Night Football I don’t think they could score a game of marbles in Times Square. Sitting at 5-5 they might even be done for the season. On paper the Bills look solid but in reality they’re a spilled glass of milk. Let’s hope the firing on their OC will fix things. Everyone in South Florida was getting a bit tired of all the Bills Mafia crap anyway. At 0-2 on MNF maybe The Bills should just start taking mondays off!!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. You only need to get into the playoffs and win four straight games, just four, to be The SuperBowl Champion. Any team that gets hot at the end of the season has a shot. It really won’t matter what your regular season record is. Win and you advance, loose and you go home. It’s as simple as that.

The new College Football Playoff standings have come out this past Tuesday evening and they feature the same four teams as before, Ohio State, Florida State, Michigan and Georgia. As I mentioned last week the battle for the final four still lies ahead with The Buckeyes and Michigan scheduled to meet Thanksgiving weekend as well as an almost certain match up between Georgia and Alabama in The SEC Championship Game. Nothing is written in stone yet but if the current trends in college football are any indication you can expect and upset in here somewhere. With undefeated Washington and several one loss schools waiting in the wings to slip into an open spot you can bet that things will get interesting. Remember, next year we move to a twelve team format that in my opinion will make things all the more interesting. With all of this in mind I give it a hearty PLAY ON (and place your bets)!!
