Kris Bryant hits first Coors Field home run with Rockies since signing $182M deal in 2022

When the Colorado Rockies signed Kris Bryant to a $182 million contract last summer, they probably expected more. On Monday, the former NL MVP blasted a home run. Rich Hill's 72 mph breaking ball from the Pittsburgh Pirates was thrown into the left field bleachers by him. The single shot reduced the Rockies' 9-0 deficit to 9-1. Bryant hit his first home run at Coors Field since joining the Rockies before to the 2022 season. The Rockies signed the ex-Cubs slugger in the hopes that the mile-high Denver air would help him rediscover the form that earned him the 2016 MVP award for his 39-home run season. Instead, in his first season in Colorado, Bryant blasted five home runs, none of which came in his home field. Bryant, 31, suffered with injuries in 2022, going on the disabled list three times. His season was cut short on July 31 due to foot concerns, particularly plantar fasciitis. He appeared in 42 games, batting.306/.376/.475 with 5 home runs and 14 RBIs. So far this season, he has stayed healthy, appearing in 16 of Colorado's 17 games. He has slugged.295/.348/.393 in 15 games prior to Monday's contest. His home run on Monday was his second of the season. If he can remain healthy, he might be the first of many at Coors Field. Even if he does, he is unlikely to give optimism for a Rockies club that is 5-11.
