LET’S HEAR YOUR STORY
Its never easy trying to slide in a few college football games during the holidays. You have to be sneaky about it. What with shopping for gifts, buying and decorating the tree, decorating the house and yard, cooking a turkey, roast and ham and preparing the guest rooms for family and friends you’d think that maybe it will be weeks or months before you can enjoy another game. To this I would say “wrong answer”. You have to learn how to cheat a little bit to get your college football fix. Stay up late and watch the west coast games, use your DVR, feign a cold or sickness and stay home, look at ways to game the system any way you can! Come on people! This is America and The College Football Playoffs have arrived!!
I don’t think anyone on The College Football Playoff selection committee is going to be receiving any medals for their work this year. I dont see any playoff medals of honor being handed out. Frankly, I think they did the best with what they had but I know a lot of people out there won’t agree with me. save your tears Alabama fans.Finding twelve teams deserving of playing each other in the new college playoff format has proven to be much harder then anyone imagined. Pacifying the dozens of coaches, administrators, athletic directors and millions of fans has proven to be even harder. Everyone believes they should be in and deserves a chance. Every program looks at themselves as being in the top tier and wants to play. The problem is of course that not everyone is going to get to play, only the 12 best that the committee feels is the best. The human factor in the selection process will always be there. Unless we go straight 100 percent A.I. in selecting the playoff teams or maybe draw numbered ping pong balls out of a barrel it is what it is. I say live with it and enjoy the games.
The best way to get into the playoffs is of course to win every game you play. Win the small games, win the big games and win each game decisively. I’m not sure why Alabama and ‘Ol Miss don’t understand that concept. The only school out there right now that seems to follow this philosophy is The University of Oregon. Going into their playoff game they are undefeated and, once again, will play Ohio State. How many times do you have to beat the pants off someone to make your case? Ohio state should just go ahead and concede this one. Oregon is going to be foaming at the mouth come New Years and once again I see Ryan Day playing for his job. Hopefully that unemployment linecwont be too long.
The other three games I’m not so sure about except for the Georgia game. Losing your senior starting quarterback to a redshirt freshman doesn’t bode well in the playoffs but with a stout defense they could pull it off against Notre Dame, maybe, but out of all the first rounders I felt The Irish looked the best. What a game!! What an atmosphere in South bend!! Let’s see if losing the crowd makes a difference in this one.
Texas and Arizona State I think is gonna be my “sleeper game” in that it will be a blowout and no I’m not taking The Sun Devils. I think Texas is gonna chew them up and spit them out like a sun dried raisin. They have no chance, at all. End of story, I think!
Of course, a lot of people are going to be watching the Penn State vs. Boise State match up. With Heisman runner up Ashton Jeanty getting a national spotlight as the only playoff game on New Years Eve this one should be a barn burner. This one could go either way and with about half the country’s population watching the guy that should have won the Heisman and is the presumptive first round pick in The NFL draft I’m going to bewatching it as well. This one will be must see tv!! Eat your heart out Colorado your 15 minutes of fame is over!
Naturally there’s always one upset right? Will it be Boise State? Will Georgia’s freshman stand in and become a hero? Tough to tell at this point. With only four games to pick at this point I’m looking to improve my standing. The first round was a succes for me but I’m not going to stand on my soap box yet! Stay tuned for a special podcast on New Years for the next round of picks and enjoy the games! hopefully we can get a little closer to that condo in Lake Tahoe! Play on I say!!
