Is There Sports After the Superbowl Of course there is, but theres only one a year

Just when we thought we could slide into the NCAA Basketball season and the NBA, its Super Bowl weekend. After two weeks of no football of any kind except the Senior Bowl (does anyone actually watch that?) and the Pro Bowl (which is actually flag football so it doesn’t really count) we get to feast our eyes and stomachs on the one event that is truly American, the one day where everything and everyone is about football. Super Bowl Sunday. It has a nice ring to it I think.

Frankly I think we need it. It’s been a tough month, it’s been a tough year. I think everyone is a bit stressed and some hard hitting good ‘Ol Fashioned American football is exactly what we need. We need to experience some aggression and hear the pads crack, the knocking of helmets, safely of course. What with the election, the inauguration, terror attacks in The Big Easy (New Orleans for all you Yankees) plane crashes and mass deportations it’s been one heck of a start to 2025. Crazy actually! Let’s hope that this Super Bowl we can all come together and keep it safe, as long as The Chiefs don’t have the refs on the take again (kidding)

To be honest I don’t get too wrapped up in The Super Bowl. It’s too long, it’s a bit gaudy and by halftime I’m bored and sleepy. I think the last one that I really watched in its totality was the one where Tom Brady and The Patriots came back to beat The Atlanta Falcons after being down about a million points in the third quarter. Well, maybe not a million but it was a lot. That’s the day I became a believer in Tom Brady and coming from a die hard Miami Dolphins fan you know that says a lot.

Patrick Mahomes and The Chiefs might talk about their two (or three maybe?) Super Bowl wins but Tom Terrific has SEVEN rings. That’s a lot. That’s nuts. Call me when The Chiefs get to five and we’ll talk!

the transfer portal is making a huge impact in this game as well. Last year a I took a lot of time to watch woman’s basketball and it was, quite literally, phenomenal. Caitlin Clarke was incredible and showed us even more in The WNBA. This year it’s all about Paige Beuckers and JuJu Watkins, two of the best woman prospects I’ve seen. With UConn star Beuckers in her last year and Watkins a sophomore at Southern Cal I expect this years NCAA Women’s Tournament to be a barn burner. Notre Dame, South Carolina, Texas and Oregon has all benefited from an active transfer portal which has been juiced by, you got it, NIL deals. The entertainment value of woman’s basketball should be off the charts soon. By the way, for all you moms and dads that are pushing your daughters in woman’s soccer and field hockey, Paige Beuckers NIL money is a cool 1.4 million dollars and she’s still in college. Go figure.

Ice Hockey is off course being played in the NHL but seriously, how many of us watch that at well? With The Florida Panthers owning the Stanley Cup and hanging at at the White House I see no reason to get too hyped up about hockey until like, June, when it’s finals time and the season is just about over. Sorry Canada but it’s Super Bowl time. Hockey can wait.

I haven’t made any official pick in the Super Bowl yet. If I go with my heart I’d say that I’d like to see The Eagles and Jalen Hurts take it, but of course my head says The Chiefs should win. I suppose it will depend on the half time score. I think if it’s close The Chiefs can take it, maybe 29-25, maybe a bigger margin. There’s no way you can convince me Nick Sariani can out couch Any Reid. It’s not happening. To add to this I’ll probably go with the over at 41. I’d go with it if it was 51, but what do I know right? I’ll probably just enjoy it and be asleep at half time!

In the end I think The Super Bowl is about having fun! Remember that! Wings, beers, dips, chips, food we don’t recognize or care to and football. What could be better I say! play on!
