Flames trade Tyler Toffoli to Devils for Yegor Sharangovich, pick

The New Jersey Devils have acquired forward Tyler Toffoli from the Calgary Flames in exchange for forward Yegor Sharangovich and a 2023 second round draft pick. Toffoli is entering the final year of his four-year contract with a $4.25M cap hit, while Sharangovich is slated to become a restricted free agent. The 31-year-old is coming off a career season where he posted 34 goals and 73 points. Toffoli was rumoured to be among several Flames discontent with the team, and he’s joining a Devils team that is firmly poised to be a contender next year.  Sharangovich posted 13 goals and 30 points, providing secondary scoring touch for New Jersey’s bottom-six. He provided excellent return on value after being selected in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL Draft. For the Devils, it’s another indication of going all-in for a Cup, while Flames general manager Craig Conroy may be indicating the first of several moves to come this summer.
