All Roads Lead To The Superbowl Viva Las Vegas!!

For those of us that weren’t able to watch NFL Football this past weekend please allow me to once again recap the results for you. The final two Super Bowl teams are now set. The San Francisco 49ers will go up against The Kansas City on February 11th in Las Vegas and I’m thinking that if this past weekend’s conference championship games were any indicator of what’s to come then this year’s Superbowl will be a barn burner. Both teams are well coached and offering up future Hall of Fame players such as Patrick Mahomes, Wonder Boy Brock Purdy, Travis Kelce and Christian McCaffrey though all are still in their prime so watching them play for the Championship should be thrilling.

These two teams are evenly matched and are sure to put on a show in the greatest sporting event on the planet. It’s a bit early to make predictions about an eventual winner but as of now I’m leaning towards The Chiefs. Their dismantling of Lamar Jackson and The Ravens convinced me that they’re for real. However, you can never be sure. More on my predictions next week.  Should be spectacular. Speaking of Lamar Jackson and The Ravens, all in all it was a good run that ended in what could only be described as a disaster for the top selection for MVP of the league. To be honest Lamar may have lost the MVP vote of a lot of people. His repeated mistakes in what was arguably the biggest game of his career may have doomed him, at least for this year. Failing to score more then once in a conference championship game won’t get you to the Super Bowl. I’m not gonna throw darts at Lamar, he’s a great player but the bottom line is that he was given his best chance by the Ravens this year to reach the gridiron in Las Vegas and he tubed it. His teammates really dropped the ball as well both figuratively and literally in a 17-10 loss that saw fumbles and interceptions taking place in the end zone not once, not twice but three times. It was a tough afternoon for Lamar and The Ravens. Better luck next year my friend.

It’s not easy to discuss what happened with The Detroit Lions in their game against The San Francisco 49ers Sunday evening. Never have I seen a team dominate so well in the first half of a game to only end up caving in the second half and suffer a humiliating loss by just 3 points. Leading 24-7 at the break had The lions running and passing the home team 49ers into the ground. In the words of one die hard 49ers fan I know, it was “humiliating”. The Lions seemed to be on the verge of a MAJOR upset and about to appear in their first Superbowl ever. However it was not meant to be. Whatever the mid game snack that was served in The San Francisco locker room worked its magic as the second half saw the 49ers hold The Lions to zero points and score several times themselves to win the game 34-31. I was speechless after this game. The fact that The Lions left 6 points on the field after going for it on 4th down instead of kicking an easy field goal(twice) was literally the craziest decisions in the history of decisions. Whatever the reason it was to forgo the points cost Detroit the game and sent them home packing. Brock Purdy and company are now enroute to Las Vegas and possibly Super Bowl glory, maybe.

It may seem hard to believe but there are other sports out there making a name during this time of the year when everyone seems to be consumed with NFL football. The NBA is in full swing and as usual there is heated competition and drama amongst the teams that are playing at a top level. Boston, Denver, Golden State and Miami are all in the thick of it at this mid stage of the season. LeBrone James and Steph Curry have put up historic performances that seem to defy their age and expectations. It seems certain that as the season progresses and we shift our focus away from football that the NBA will produce the level of competition that we all crave. Not to be outdone, the college basketball ranks are on fire as well. With only a few short weeks before the NCAA tournament the conferences are are all doing well with the usual Blue Bloods dominating the hard wood. Purdue, Kansas, Arizona, Kentucky and North Carolina all have found there way in and out of the top five spots. Duke, Connecticut and a host of others wait patiently in the wings for an upset which seems to take place almost nightly. Truth be told, once the tournament arrives it’s another win or go home scenario that make a regular season record moot. Get ready to fill out those brackets!!

With an open weekend before The Super Bowl its important to remember that this past season has been a great one. The two teams left standing can’t take away from the fact that each of the 32 teams in the NFL has given us some great performances and memories that we’ll hold onto into next season. I’m looking forward to seeing the great players return to the field after suffering some season ending injuries. I’m looking forward to good teams becoming great teams. I’m looking forward to an NFL draft that will introduce us to tomorrow’s stars(or not). The world we live in may change almost daily but The NFL remains as always a way of life for all of us. So, let’s move onto The Super Bowl and enjoy the game! Play On I Say!!
