This Past Weeks Big Bust Notre Dame If you think that being a college football fan is an easy act to follow you should think again. A team that is heralded one week as nearly unbeatable can slip the next week and become the loss that ruins your weekend, and your picks. One never knows who is going to rise to the top or sink to the depths. It’s pretty much the same story every year. I have often times thought in the past that it might be less stressful to just ignore the first 6 or 8 weeks of the season and start watching around Holloween. Why should this season be any different? No weekend in college football is complete without an upset. It’s pretty much an unwritten rule that someone really, really good is gonna get beaten by a school no one had even considered as being competitive. For this week’s obvious shocker I give you The University of Notre Dame. A week ago I couldn’t say enough about The Irish. Going into Texas A&M’s stadium and winning in front of a rabid, hostile crowd was no small feat. I had them pegged to go deep this year! Alas, a fiesty and well prepared Northern Illinois team dashed all of those hopes. Losing 16-14 on your home field is not a good look, but losing to an unranked small school like NI is an Irish embarrassment. Although their year is certainly not over my post season predictions certainly need to be adjusted. Frankly I was expecting more then it turned out to be. LOS ANGELES (AP) — The damages a federal jury has ordered the NFL to pay for violating antitrust laws in distributing out-of-market Sunday afternoon games on a premium subscription service is $4,707,259,944.64. The figures from the June 27 judgment against the NFL were listed on the verdict form, which was posted on the case docket Tuesday July 3rd. 2024 Judge Philip S. Gutierrez is scheduled to hear post-trial motions on July 31, including the NFL’s request to have him rule in favor of the league by determining the plaintiffs did not prove their case.

The new stadium on the Vegas Strip will sit on the site of the former Tropicana Hotel and Casino, it is expected to be completed for the start of the 2028 MLB season. Apparently not soon enough for the A’s owner John Joseph Fisher who since decided to let the A’s current lease at the Oakland Coliseum expire, much to the dismay of the local fans. So, instead of staying at the Coliseum, the team will spend three seasons at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, currently the home of the San Francisco Giants' Triple-A affiliate River Cats. This interim move will bring to a close 56 years of professional baseball in Oakland, thus now leaving the city without a single major professional sports franchise for the first time since 1959.
