Nick Foligno Named Captain Of Blackhawks

Nick Foligno has officially been named the 35th captain of the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Blackhawks traded for Foligno last offseason, but it’s clear his leadership qualities that he brings to the table have been undeniable, which led to him getting this great honor.

“Nick’s commanding presence in the locker room has been instrumental in helping the team find its identity," Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson said. "He has served as a mentor to many of our young players both on and off the ice while also heading up the leadership group comprised of our veteran players, and we are beyond confident that he will flourish in the role of captain as we usher in a new era of Blackhawks hockey.”

This is not Foligno’s first stint in this role. The veteran forward served as the captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets for six seasons, showing the high respect that he holds among his hockey peers.

It may be a familiar situation for Foligno, but nonetheless, he is deeply touched and honored by this promotion and hopes to help the rebuilding Blackhawks grow as a team.

“The fact that Danny, Kyle, Luke and my teammates have all put their faith in me to lead this amazing group is extremely humbling, and I thank them all for the opportunity,” Foligno said. “I am beyond honored to serve as captain for this storied franchise and its incredible fans, especially during such a pivotal time toward the team’s future.”

This past season, the 36-year-old recorded 17 goals, 20 assists and 37 points in 74 games while averaging 17:46 minutes.
